Train Insane: Foods that are bad for you

myHealthyOC.com loves meeting health conscious people in the Orange County community. Geoff Etherson, owner of Train Insane Gym in Anaheim reached out to us and we are happy to feature his candid thoughts on nutrition, fitness, motivation and more in the coming weeks. Thanks, Geoff!

Okay here we go. This post was inspired by many, many questions about supposed healthy foods. In this country, the food industry has been disguising horrible unhealthy foods as healthy. They have done this in many different ways, but I think that the most despicable are the clever names that they give to food in order to make it sound okay to eat. The following is a small list of junk that poses as healthy food. However, these are all foods that you should stay away from. Some will be obvious and some (more…)

Goodwill Fitness Center

As a proud partner of the Goodwill Fitness Center, I was very excited to finally be able to attend a Rise to the Challenge Tour. I wanted to share a bit with you about my experience with hopes that our wonderful myHealthyOC.com community might have some ideas on how we can work together to help support and grow this amazing organization.

Started just over four years ago, the Goodwill Fitness Center was built to provide fitness services to the physically disabled, chronically ill and their immediate family or caregivers. Today there are over 100,000 people in the Orange County community that could benefit from the services of this organization and I ask that you all help us to spread the word.

My first impression from this tour was how friendly all of the staff (more…)

Time to lace up your running shoes!

Run Club

Spring is in the air and it’s time to lace up your running shoes!  Orange County plays host to a multitude of races, ranging from awesomely themed 5k’s to highly competitive marathons.

So what’s it going to be for you?  A 5k?  A mud run?  Is it time to get wild with a half marathon?  The options are endless, as are the ways in which you can train for these.  Some of us may be solo runners.  We stick our earphones in, push ourselves through each mile, and know exactly how to coach ourselves to the end of our run.   The rest of us have no clue how to train for an event, but a support system can play a huge role in preparing for the big day.

If you fall into the latter category (most of us do), there’s no need to get your compression shorts in a bunch (more…)

If you’re ready to give it a go, how do you decide from the plethora of paddle companies in the area? myHealthyOC.com asked the same question, and that’s when we discovered Laguna Beach Paddle Boarding (LBPB).

Business models like that of LBPB, founded by inspiring, outside-the-box thinkers, catch myHealthyOC.com‘s attention. They offer a great product, exclusive and unbeatable service and are created upon the foundation of helping others.

I like to sweat. Let me rephrase that: I LOVE to sweat. I crave that cleansing and detoxifying feeling paired with knowing that you did something beneficial for your body. Typically, I find my sweat elation from working my butt off in an indoor cycling class or a heated yoga class. Word is spreading, however, about a hot and saucy find that can burn up to 600 calories and you can use as a compliment to your workout or on its very own.

I just have to sit there to reach sweaty bliss? It’s time for Suite Sweat!

The juicy goodness
How is Suite Sweat different from any other sauna and what makes it so cool?

The Suite Sweat Sauna uses an infrared light in the saunas that will penetrate deep into the human tissue, “resulting in a deep, detoxifying sweat at (more…)
